The yeast printing workshop introduced 12 participants to a novel experimental imaging process for creating animations. Living yeast cultures were prepared and exposed to produce images. The workshop explored the rich possibilities and restrictions of this process. The yeast images were created by UV radiation. Areas that were not touched by the UV radiation were able to grow the white yeast. The yeast images are constantly changing, they grow and rewrite themselves. With cameras capturing the dishes, live animations can be produced. Yeast micro-organisms have a cell nucleus therefore their structure is much closer to higher beings than that of bacteria. Yeast is an important model organism for biological and biomedical research and has been at the disposal of research for centuries.
