Brewing tea and conversations – Night of the Arts at SOLU Space

Come and make tea with us! But it won’t be only about pouring hot water on the dry leaves and drinking it over a chat but most of all about making herbal tea from scratch.

Together we will turn freshly harvested wild and urban species into tea. Through wilting, hand rolling, crowding, and fermenting leaves and flowers we will experience the surprising transformation of flavor and the subtle power of embodied learning.

During this process, we will not only drink tea but also chat about the importance of rituals, traditional ways of tea making, and how different cultures apply it in their local contexts.

The workshop is hosted by Paulina Gretkierewicz, a forager and witch from The Applied Poetry, and Aga Pokrywka, a fermenter and multimedia wizardess from Ferment Radio.

You are welcome to bring along eatable plants you would like to transform into tea or be surprised by what variety we prepared for you.

9 stairs lead to the building's front lobby. The front door has two 2 cm thresholds. From the front lobby, you can take a spacious elevator directly to the SOLU Space.

Barrier-free access is at the back of the building, where there is a ramp to a large elevator. When traveling from the freight elevator to the SOLU Space, there are a couple of 2 cm thresholds on the way. Access through the freight elevator is only possible until 22:00 / 10 PM.

The building has two large toilets that can accommodate a wheelchair. Both toilets have a 2 cm threshold on the door. A wheelchair can only fit on the left-side (when facing the toilet) of the toilet. In both toilets, the handrail that can be lifted up is only on the left side of the toilet (when facing the toilet).

Tule tekemään teetä! Emme vain tyydy kaatamaan kuumaa vettä kuiville teelehdille ja juomaan valmista tuotosta, vaan valmistamme itse teen alusta loppuun.

Yhdessä muunnamme kaupunkiympäristöstä kerätyt villiyrtit teeksi. Kuivattamalla ja fermentoimalla kasvien eri osia saadaan aikaan yllättäviäkin muutoksia mauissa, minkä lisäksi osallistujat oppivat samalla uusia käsityötekniikoita. Illan aikana ei ole vain tarkoitus juoda teetä, vaan keskustella ja oppia samalla erilaisten rituaalien tärkeydestä, perinteisestä teen valmistuksesta sekä eri kulttuurien tavoista nauttia ja valmiista teetä.

Työpajan vetäjinä toimivat keräilijä-noita Paulina Gretkierewicz Applied Poetrystä sekä fermentoija ja multimedia-loitsijatar Aga Pokrywka Ferment Radiosta.

Osallistuminen ei edellytä omien raaka-aineiden tuomista. Jos kuitenkin haluat, voit tuoda mukanasi syötäviä kasveja tai (villi)yrttejä, joita haluaisit päästä käyttämään teen valmistuksessa.

Tapahtuman pääkieli on englanti.

Esteettömyystiedot

Rakennuksen etuaulaan johtaa 9 portaikko. Etuovella on kaksi 2 cm kynnystä. Etuaulasta pääsee tilavalla hissillä suoraan SOLU-tilaan.

Esteetön käynti on rakennuksen takapuolella, josta löytyy ramppi suureen tavarahissiin. Tavarahissiltä SOLU-tilaan kuljettaessa matkalla on pari 2 cm kynnystä. Kulku tavarahissin kautta on mahdollista vain klo 22 asti.

Rakennuksessa on kaksi suurta vessaa, joihin mahtuu pyörätuolin kanssa. Kummassakin vessassa on 2 cm kynnys ovella. Vessanpöntön viereen mahtuu pyörätuolilla vain pönttöä päin katsoessa vasemmalle puolelle. Ylös nostettava kaide on molemmissa vessoissa vain pöntön vasemmalla puolella pönttöä päin katsoessa.
