D3.1 Lab workshop case study - view via ARC-HIVE or DOWNLOAD DELIVERABLE D3.1 1.8 GB
Wet-Lab case study „LIFE LAB“ is an intense 5-day workshop for a trans-disciplinary group of practitioners to critically engage with the socio-cultural, political, and ethical complexities of contemporary life science. The goal is to create the ability for informed cultural responses (artworks, writing, designs, etc.) in relation to the fields of molecular biology, synthetic biology, and CRISPR technologies. The methods shift between hands-on lab work and theory-driven lectures, presentations, and discussions. The venue at the Biofilia laboratory of the Aalto University, a long-term partner of the FBAS, offers lab infrastructure and the necessary digital technology to facilitate remote creation. Remote participating hubs are partners KONTEJNER, Kersnikova, and RBINS, as well as selected international experts.

D3.2 Field workshop case study - view via ARC-HIVE or DOWNLOAD DELIVERABLE D3.2 723MB
Intense 14-day workshop for trans-disciplinary practitioners aimed to test and evaluate specific approaches to artistic fieldwork: What kind of data or experience remains outside of the scientific research? How can it be turned into knowledge through artistic methods? How can the scientific, cultural, and natural environments be a catalyst for the questions created at a certain locality? The workshop takes place at the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki in the sub-Arctic Sápmi area, the region traditionally inhabited by the Sámi people. The fieldwork will focus on geological strata with fossil remains that belong to the earliest animal traces on the planet and are unique in Finland. Remote participants are selected, international experts.

D3.3 Exhibition case study - view via ARC-HIVE - DOWNLOAD DELIVERABLE D3.3 5.1GB
Participants go through a complete curatorial and production process for the exhibition of a bio-art (online and on-site information, a program with a vernissage, finissage, and artist seminar). Target group: students of the curatorial program of Aalto University and Uniarts Art University in Helsinki, partner representatives (remote and on-site), and international experts. The aim is to produce systematized knowledge on working with living systems under gallery conditions. The method will go beyond the conventional questions of curating and producing, taking into account issues of life support, bio-safety, bio-security, and how to deal with living systems during and after the exhibition.
