We offered our SOLU Space in Kalasatama for miniresidencies for our members via an open call. In the end, we could support all those who applied, which means Claudio Filho, Elena Cirkovic, Erich Berger, Genietta Varsi and working group, Pia Lindman and Maria Ångerman will be having their residencies from July until October.
During their residencies, the selected artists and artist group have the option to use our space (kitchen, librabry, open plan project space and workshop space) and equipment (microscopes, audio equipment, tools, cameras and more) as they choose.
During his SOLU Space residency, Claudio Filho will be working with the SOLU library and, if time permits, to explore the embodied sense of temperature in Laajalahti through layered interactions in strategic points along hiking trails. Elena Cirkovic will have her SOLU Space miniresidency consecutively to her staying in Ars Bioarctica residency at Kilpisjärvi Biological Station to work on a research projetc part of her PhD thesis. In SOLU Space, she will prepare the photographs, drawings and other materials which she has started to produce in Kilpisjärvi. Erich Berger will use his time in residency to prepare for an upcoming exhibition by buildinging components and layout testing. Genietta Varsi and working group (Michaela Davidova and Hedwich Rooks) will be working with their longer collaborative project in which they research the place of bodily fluids in their own and other’s practices. In doing so, they focus both on ecological and social sustainability and reflect on the possibilities of oozing, spilling or leaking the own body in the work. Pia Lindman intends to finalise sound editing work of the accrued recordings of her collective spell singing performances. She will also organise presentations, discussions, and listenings of the ongoing work, preparing to attend another collective spell singing project in Trencin, Slovakia. During her residency, Maria Ångerman will work on her current experimental film project on the Baltic edge ecology that she started last summer at the Korpo Archipelago Residency.
