Welcome to join us for a dialogue that brings together Ariane Koek, a leading expert in the intersection of art, science and technology, and Erich Berger, director of Bioart Society. During the evening, they will be discussing Koek’s pioneering work and the many ways in which art, science and society can come together within artistic and curatorial practices.
Ariane Koek is an independent international arts/science/technology/ecology consultant, director, producer and writer. She also specialises in the creation and delivery of residency programmes.
Koek is internationally known for initiating, then designing and directing for five years the Arts at CERN programme, including the Collide residency programme, at the world's largest particle physics research laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. Today, she works with many international institutions, including the new Cavendish Arts Science programme at the University of Cambridge, UK, The Exploratorium in San Francisco, USA, and as the founder, curator and creative producer of the Earth Water Sky residency and production programme at Science Gallery Venice in Italy.
Koek’s latest curatorial work includes Real Feelings: Emotion and Technology at MU Hybrid Art House in Eindhoven in 2021, Backlight: Related Realities – the Nordic Photography Triennale 2020 in Tampere, Finland, and Entangle: Physics and the Artistic Imagination at Bildmuseet in Umea, Sweden, in 2019. This year, she is an invited Creative Director of CityXVenice, the official Italian virtual pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale, where she introduced the world premiere of Witness by Emma Critchley, the first Earth Water Sky artist in residence. Koek's recent writing commissions include the Out of Sight essay for A I S T I T / coming to our senses which opens at Kunsthalle Helsinki on August 19.
