We are looking for 15 artists, scientists and other practitioners from different fields who are interested to collaborate and work in one of the three groups. You can read more about the groups on our website. We welcome applications from professionals in all stages of their careers.
The applicants need to provide us with a short biography, to state which group they would be interested in joining and why, and to describe how they can contribute to the selected group. All this information should be submitted via the form at the end of this page. We are happy to provide you with an official invitation letter, if you are applying for additional travel funding.
The deadline for this open call is Friday 17th March 2023 at 23:55 (EET). The selected participants will be noted by the beginning of April. The Field_Notes – The North Escaping field laboratory lasts from 17th September until 1st October 2023.
If you are selected, you are obliged to arrive at Rovaniemi (FIN) by your own means at the morning of the 17th September to board our charter bus to Kilpisjärvi. Participants must take care of the possible accommodation before or after Kilpisjärvi themselves. The bus journey from Rovaniemi to Kilpisjärvi (and vice versa) takes 7 hours.
The selected participants are required to provide us with a copy of their train/ferry/plane tickets to Rovaniemi to secure their place. The participants also need to have their own (travel, health and/or equipment) insurance.
If you are arriving first in Helsinki, we strongly encourage you to travel to Rovaniemi by night train to reduce the environmental impact of travelling. This is also how the Bioart Society team is going to travel to Rovaniemi. Train tickets can be booked via the website of the National Railway operator (VR). Otherwise flights can be booked directly to Rovaniemi. In case it is more convenient for you, you can also fly to Tromsø (NOR) and travel straight to Kilpisjärvi by bus.
The participants will lodge in rooms of two. If you wish not to share a room, please let us know in your application. If you would need a single room, please be prepared for a possible extra charge.
People applying should note that Field_Notes – The North Escaping includes a lot of walking and hiking outdoors, sometimes on challenging terrain and harsh weather conditions. We will provide the selected attendees with more information on the weather conditions etc. to ensure they have a realistic idea of what kind of gear and clothes they should bring with.
The Bioart Society covers the return travel from Rovaniemi to Kilpisjärvi and the accommodation and food at the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station. The participants need to cover their travel costs to Rovaniemi (FIN) and the possible costs of accommodation before and after Kilpisjärvi.
If you also have funding to cover the costs of staying at the Kilpisjärvi Biological Station, please let us know in you application. If you can use your own funding to cover the costs, we are able to bring additional people to join Field_Notes – The North Escaping.
If you have any other concerns or questions, please send us an email to lisa.kalkowski@bioartsociety.fi.
