BIO·FICTION Shorts

BIO·FICTION Shorts is a touring collection of short films exploring the theme of Futurebody. Crossing genre boundaries, the film programme delves into neurotechnology and the ways it might shape the future of the human body, mind, intelligence, and society. The films are available for watching online on five April evenings:

The programme features nine short films from three continents, all of which have been awarded or screened at the BIO·FICTION Science Art Film Festival 2019. A deliciously thought-provoking mix of documentary and science fiction, live action and animation, the programme invites its audiences to discuss and imagine the potentials, dilemmas and concerns related to neurotechnology.

The films are accompanied by a panel discussion on April 8, and a series of conversations taking place on April 14, 21, and 28.

The BIO·FICTION programme is brought to SOLU Space by Biofaction, a Vienna-based organisation dedicated to research and science communication that has been organising BIO·FICTION Science Art Film Festival since 2011. Biofaction provides expertise and services in various areas, including science communication, film production, art and science collaboration, technology assessment, and managing the science-society interface.

The total duration of the films is 77 minutes - scroll down for the list of films. Some of the films contain violence.

The films are subtitled in English unless the spoken language is English. The films with English dialogue and no subtitles are Paramusical Ensemble, Reboot, and Perfectly Natural. Adam & Eve MK II has no dialogue.

BIO·FICTION Shorts

BIO·FICTION Shorts on kokoelma lyhytelokuvia, jotka tutkivat tulevaisuuden kehon (futurebody) teemaa. Yhdeksästä elokuvasta koostuva ohjelmisto paneutuu neuroteknologiaan ja vaikutuksiin, joita sillä voi olla tulevaisuuden ihmiskehoihin, mieleen, älyyn ja yhteiskuntaan.

Elokuvat ovat katseltavissa verkossa viitenä huhtikuun iltana: perjantaina 9.4. klo 17–23; keskiviikkoina 14.4., 21.4. ja 28.4. klo 17–23 sekä torstaina 29.4. klo 17–23. Pääset katsomaan elokuvia lähettämällä meille sähköpostia osoitteeseen join@bioartsociety.fi; toimitamme sinulle vastauksena katselulinkin.

Ohjelmassa nähdään eri genrejä edustavia elokuvia kolmelta mantereelta, ja ne on palkittu tai esitetty vuoden 2019 BIO·FICTION -tiede- ja taide-elokuvafestivaalilla. Ajatuksia herättelevät lyhytelokuvat ovat herkullinen lajitelma dokumenttia ja scifiä, näytelmäelokuvaa ja animaatiota; ohjelma kutsuu yleisönsä keskustelemaan ja kuvittelemaan mahdollisuuksia, pulmia ja huolenaiheita, jotka neuroteknologiaan liittyvät.

Elokuvasarjan lisäksi järjestämme verkossa järjestettävän paneelikeskustelun torstaina 8.4. sekä sarjan keskusteluita keskiviikkoina 14.4., 21.4. ja 28.4.

BIO·FICTION -ohjelmiston Biotaiteen seuralle tuo Biofaction, Wienissä toimiva tutkimukseen ja tiedeviestintään erikoistunut organisaatio, joka on järjestänyt BIO·FICTION-festivaalia vuodesta 2011. Biofaction tarjoaa asiantuntijuutta ja palveluita muun muassa tiedeviestinnän, elokuvatuotannon, taiteen ja tieteen välisen yhteistyön, teknologian arvioinnin sekä tieteen ja yhteiskunnan rajapintojen hallinnan aloilla.

Elokuvien kokonaiskesto on 77 minuuttia – elokuvien kuvaukset löydät alta. Osa elokuvista sisältää väkivaltaa. 

Saavutettavuus

Elokuvat on tekstitetty englanniksi paitsi jos niiden puhuttu kieli on englanti. Elokuvissa Paramusical Ensemble, Reboot ja Perfectly Natural on englanninkielinen dialogi eikä niitä ole tekstitetty. Elokuvassa Adam & Eve MK II ei ole dialogia.

PARAMUSICAL ENSEMBLE

The documentary follows the Paramusical Ensemble, which consists of four severely motor-impaired patients and a string quartet, preparing and performing a live musical piece with the help of a Brain-Computer Music Interfacing system.

Dokumentti seuraa Paramusical Ensemble -nimistä orkesteria, joka koostuu neljästä liikuntarajoitteisesta potilaasta ja jousikvartetista. Orkesteri valmistautuu musiikkiesitykseen, joka toteutuu potilaiden aivosähkökäyriä mittaavan järjestelmän avulla.

Reboot tells the story of a lonesome man suffering from depression and obsessive regrets about the past. He chooses to erase his memory in order to restart his life and get a second chance at living a “normal” life.

Reboot on tarina yksinäisestä miehestä, joka kärsii masennuksesta ja piinaavasta katumuksesta. Mies päättää poistaa muistonsa voidakseen aloittaa elämänsä uudelleen ja saadakseen uuden mahdollisuuden elää tavallista elämää.
